dont over heat the solder or it will explode and splash and its very very hot and can burn the hell out of you

it really depends on what you are going to be soldering…

    recommendation: Don’t buy the cheap $2 soldering irons…they ****!

That depends on what you are soldering. If it is heavy work then you would need a gun with high heat. If you are working on circuit boards, etc. where high heat could cause damage, then you should use a pencil iron. Type of work also requires different types of solder. Electrical or electronic should be done with rosin core solder. 60/40 is common. That is 60% lead 40% tin and has a fairly low melting point. Plumbing should probably be done with acid core. Which ever type you do you should use flux. Dip you tip into in to clean it and also apply flux to the parts you are going to solder. It will help keep the impurities out of the connection. Hint on plumbing (copper pipe) make sure all water is out of the pipe or it will cause steam when you heat the pipe to solder it and the steam will cause blow by and you could end up with leaks when finished.

I might be able to help you better if I knew what is was you are soldering.

email if you need more help.

Good luck and hope this helped some.

make sure the parts are really, really clean. or the solder won’t stick.
use soldering paste (flux) and a comperable solder
try to heat the object to be soldered not the solder then the solder will flow to the area. I like tin and atimony type solders. forget lead.
